Influence of Habits

When we are young, we look at habits as things to like to do, but when we grow old, we see habits as the small dominoes that build up who we are and how people perceive us. So, this would mean we have habits that we must keep and some to change look at the influence they have on us and their effect that they highlight to people around us.


From a book called atomic habits, there are few points I have taken so far as I'm reading it. One of them being, habits are a build block to our character and success because there are habits that when done over and over again, they sharp one's character and future. These habits would be exercising time management, saving money from every paycheck and meditation, just to name a few. With such habits when repeated they turn to build one's character and at time even success because when you realize that time is a commodity that is worth more than anything, since you can be paid from as little as $16.00/hr to more $1000.00/hr. So, building good habits is a good thing since they may benefit you in many ways, for instance imagine you have been saving money and an opportunity of investing comes and you able to invest and get dividends that pay you.


Just as good habits compound to benefit you same goes for bad habits they compound to disaster, which is other point I took from the book. Habits compound with their effect they have on you, and they effect will be one to tell if they were bad or good habit. Let look at one instance. You have nothing to do for a couple of minutes, and you turn to your phone like everyone does nowadays, and you consume content in social media which I consider to be fake since some of it it's staged, and time pass by with gaining anything except dopamine boost which returns to base obviously. So, from this exercise there was no gain for you time that's precious. Then what if you read a book every time you have nothing to do at least you gain knowledge or maybe do a skill that would benefit you in the future either personally or career wise.




We all have habits that we do for our own reasons, but it would of great benefit to shave a bit of the bad ones and start implementing good habits such as exercising not to lose weight but for the benefit of your health, since the food we eat nowadays is processed from many inorganic things. So, with the habits we do I would say be on the watch out for them, and I would recommend reading Atomic Habits by James Clear, to learn more about habits and their influence.
